No matter how hard the government is trying, the War on Drugs is simply a failed campaign and mission. Drug abuse is growing and growing, dealerships emerge at new spots on a daily basis, and drugs in general have never been as accessible as they are today.
The War on Drugs is basically a campaign of prohibition and military intervention, with the United States government at the center of it. The goal, as always is to reduce illegal drug trade. The term was first used by President Richard Nixon in 1971.
Even though it has been more than 40 years since, the war is still underway and the reality is that the government is losing. The Obama administration has decided not to use the term “war on drugs”, believing it is counter-productive.
But no matter which term the administration uses it, drug addiction is growing larger. Drug addiction is a disease that can be treated, but it is better to prevent it. And what better way to prevent drug addiction than make drugs harder to get.The reality is that we are losing the war as a society, and this documentary takes a look at what can change, what can we improve, and on some of the reports by Global Commission on drug policy.
