A $30 billion industry per year, one of the worst human rights violation, the third largest organized crime, that is what sex slavery is nowadays.
According to numbers, the average cost of a slave is $90, with more than 800,000 people being trafficked across international borders every year. Out of those people, more than 80% are female, and half of those are children.
The numbers state that the average age that teens enter the sex trade market in the United States is between 12 and 14 years. While it is not confirmed, many of the victims are actually runaway girls sexually abused as children.
Sunitha Krishnan has dedicated her life and work to helping these people. She is the co-founder of a NGO that works with sex trafficked victims. The organization, called Prajwala, rescues, rehabilitates and then reintegrates the victims into the social life.
