In Valencia, Spain, there is a rather unconventional custom. Every year, 400 falla monuments are put in the city. The Falles, or fallas, is a traditional ceremony that is held in commemoration of Saint Joseph. The term refers to the celebration, but also to the monuments that are burnt during the celebration.

Other cities around Valencia have similar customs and celebrations, all inspired by the Fallas celebration. In 2016, the Fallas festival was added to the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage of humanity list.

This documentary follows the story and process of a falla. How they are created, starting from the first idea and sketches, all the way to the production, transporation to the city, the assembly, and the festival. The sculptures are set to light on the night of 19th of March.

Each neighborhood of the city has an organized group of people that work all year long. They hold fundraising parties, dinners, and much more to gather money to create the falla monument.
