The sounds of 40 years in Formula 1

Formula 1 has drastically changed over the last 40 years. The most obvious difference is evolution of aerodynamics. But there have been changes under the bodywork as well.

Engines have changed drastically as well. The sound you hear on the track now is much different than what is was years ago.

Williams, one of the more successful brands in F1, has made a brilliant video showing the engine sound evolution since its first car, the March 761 raced on the tracks in 1977.

Over the years, we had the Ford Cosworth DFV in the 1960s and 1970s, and now we have the high tech V6 turbo power units. Modern machinery sounds differently, but how differently?
