The Last Silverback Mountain Gorillas

Silverback gorillas live high in the mountains in protected parks in Africa. Sometimes they are referred to as mountain gorillas. Adult males are called Silverbacks because of the silver saddle of hair on their backs.
For decades, these gorillas have been subject to uncontrolled hunting, disease, habitat loss, and the ravages of human conflict. As a result, their numbers have plummeted and they are now considered endangered.
Today, around 1,000 individuals of these gorillas remain in the wild, making them one of the most endangered species. More than half live in the Virunga mountains, a range of extinct volcanoes that border the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, and Uganda. The remainder can be found in the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda.
This documentary follows Dr. Mike Cranfield and other gorilla doctors as they perform check-ups and operate the endangered mountain gorillas in Rwanda’s Virguna national park.
