Defined as “the experience of pleasure, joy, or self-satisfaction that comes from learning or witnessing the troubles, failures, or humiliation of another. Schadenreude is one of four related emotions or concepts.

It is a complex negative emotion. Basically, instead of feeling sympathy towards someone’s misfortune, you are joyful and take pleasure from watching someone fail. You might be wondering, how can some people feel such emotions.

Well, that is the world we live in today. Nowadays, the emotion is displayed more in children than adults. However, even adults experience the emotion often. The difference is they are better at concealing their expressions.

In this documentary, Professor of Psychology Richard H. Smith, talks about the dark side of human nature, and people taking pleasure in the pain of others.
