Martin Shkreli on Drug Price Hikes and Playing the World’s Villain

After increasing the price for Daraprim from $13.50 per pill to whooping $750 per pill, or for 5000%, Martin Shkreli became the poster child for capitalism and capitalistic greed. In just a matter of seconds, Shkreli went from being a son of two janitors, to a millionaire worth more than $45 million.

He is not your typical entrepreneur. A 32 year old company builder, Marin made his money betting against the pharmaceutical industry and in 2012, he switched to running a drug company.

Currently, he is under investigation for price gauging. An American journalist for Vice, Allie Conti, decided to catch up with Martin to find out who is the man behind the headlines.

Martin lives in a minimalistic apartment, one can say small one can say big, but he doesn’t have a lot of furniture. He does have a pricey guitar collection, and “wheels” to  travel through the apartment.

Martin begins his story over a game of chess, saying he got tired of predicting the stock market, and found that betting on horses, black jack and other gambling sins is equal. He started his pharmaceutical company because he understands medicine, and he knew that can be very profitable.

And to the question if he is evil, Martin answers “I am the opposite of evil”. He accepts being the bad guy, the Bond villain, but in reality, he cares deeply about people’s life. With that being said, take a look at the short interview in which Martin explains why he is different and why he thinks he is the good guy in the story.
