The Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire, or the Conquest of Mexico, is one of the primary events in the Spanish colonization of the Americas. The conflict began in February 1519, and lasted for two years and a couple of months.
The result was a victory by the Spaniard and indigenous allied. There were territorial changes following the war.
Spanish conquistadors were led by Hernan Cortes, while the Aztec civilization was led by Moctezuma. There are many narratives of the events by Spanish conquistadors, their indigenous allies, and the defeated Aztecs.
This documentary shows the result of the hostility between Cortes and Moctezuma, and how that led to the war. It mainly focuses on the fall of Tenochtitlan, where Cortes’s army besieged the city for 93 days. The combination of superior weaponry and a devastating smallpox outbreak enabled the Spanish to conquer the city.
