North Korea hasn’t always been under the totalitarian rule of the Kim regime. The dynasty began some 100 years ago. It was Kim Il Sung that gained fame in the 1937 Chinese-supported guerrilla attacks against invading Japanese forces. He fled to the Soviet Union, and later returned to form the dynasty.

The Kim Dynasty, referred in North Korea as the Mount Paektu bloodline or Mount Baekdu bloodline is a three-generation lineage of North Korean leadership. They all descend from the first leader, Kim Il-Sung.

In 1948, Kim came to rule the North after the end of the Japanese rule in 1945 split the region.

How long will the Kim dynasty rule North Korea? Nobody knows. This documentary takes a look at the founding member of the Kim dynasty and how he came to power.
