Demi Lovato is quite a successful singer. She has released six studio albums. And when she released her last one, she followed it up with a documentary about her path to success. The “Simply complicated” documentary follows her pursuit to overcome her demons, and shows exactly how painful that journey is.
The most used word in the documentary is “authentic”, which is used to describe her success, her journey, her story, and her style. That is what makes her one of the most honest entertainers in the music world.
The documentary is one hour and 20 minutes long, but not a minute is wasted. You get hooked from the very first minute, when Demi says “I actually had anxiety around this interview because the last time I did an interview this long, I was on cocaine”.
Demi talks openly about how she got addicted to cocaine, and how that addiction taught her life lessons she now tries to show to other people. Here is the opening monologue, just for a glimpse of what to expect:
“I am Demi Lovato. I'm 25. The last decade has taught me a lifetime of lessons. I've learned that secrets make you sick. I'm learning how to be a voice and not a victim. I've learned that sex is natural. I've learned that love is necessary. Heartbreak is unavoidable, and loneliness is brutal. I've learned that the key to being happy is to tell your truth and be OK without all the answers. This is my story. This is Simply Complicated."
