COLLISION carves new ground in documentary filmmaking, as it faces the main atheist, political journalist and bestselling author Christopher Hitchens against the co-author, satirist and evangelical theologian Douglas Wilson, as they go on the road for the exchange of blows on the question: “Is Christianity good for the world?”.
The two mavericks laughter, trust and discuss, publicly and privately, in his journey through three cities. And the film captures it all. The result is a conflict magnetic characters in a story cinematically shines with a perfect combination of the personalities of the arrest and intellectual rivalry.
In May 2007, leading atheist Christopher Hitchens and Douglas Wilson Christian apologist began discussing the topic “Is it good for the world to Christianity?” In a series of exchanges of letters published in the magazine Christianity Today. The fight sparked noisy literary filmmaker Darren Doane interest, who sought to Hitchens and Wilson to launch the idea of making a movie in the whole debate.
In the fall of 2008, Doane and crew accompanied Hitchens and Wilson in an East Coast tour to promote the book compiled from written discussion entitled creatively enough, Is Christianity good for the planet?. “I loved the idea of putting one of the most respected intellectuals bypass the public along with an ultra-conservative Idaho shepherd who looks like a lumberjack,” says Doane. “Could not write two opposite characters. What is more real than a fight between two guys who are in complete opposite sides of the fence in the most contentious issue in the world? We were ready to make a movie about two intellectual warriors the top of his game is one to one. I knew it would make an incredible movie. ”
