It is not hard to recognize a graphic print by Alan Kitching, one of Britain’s greatest typographers. Alan has created more than 400 prints in his lifetime, and they were all created in his home in south London.

At the beginning of 2016, the typographer had an exhibition in London, called “A life in letterpress”, featuring some of his best works done over 60 years. And now, the exhibition is enriched with extracts from his life and work.

Over six decades, Hitchking was at the forefront of typographical designs. His work is attributed as bold and elegant. Sketchbooks, artifacts, and proofs, all of those can be seen in the short video.

Alan is now 76 years old, but still very much in shape for work. Of course he doesn’t create, but spends his days enjoying life and retirement. He wanted to be an artist since he was a child, and left school to be a poster artist. He started as a typesetter, with print jobs following. In the 1970s, he established himself as a graphic designer. Enjoy his work.
