Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud was King of Saudi Arabia and Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques from November 1964 to March 1975.
He was the third son of King ABdulaziz, emerging as an influential royal politician under his father and brother, King Saud.
He implemented a policy of modernization and reform. Faisal had a pan-Islamism and anti-communism foreign policy. He tried to limit the power of Islamic religious officials.
Many remember him for the oil embargo and the 1973 oil crisis. Protesting against support that Israel received from the West, he led the oil embargo.
In 1975, he was assassinated by his nephew, Faisal bin Musaid.
