We’ve lived in a number of eras of urbanism. First, it was the new urbanism of the 1990s, where the goal was to achieve neo-traditional planning. What followed was landscape urbanism, where government tried to build parks and green infrastructure (a trend still in place), and then tactical urbanism (taking over public space with yoga classes and music concerts).
Now, we seem to be getting new type of urbanism, which is lean urbanism. This trend is trying to show the built environment that certain building types, for example, do not need an elevator. Or something else, like, say, sprinkler system.
Not many people can afford to live in big house, with a grandeurs yard. Some of us are not blessed with that. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t get the best out of our opportunities.
