Gina Haspel will break history, as she is set to become the first female CIA director. President Donald Trump named Haspel his pick for the spot, and raised a ton of questions.
Haspel is known as the warden of a secret CIA prison on Thailand, one on which suspects were tortured. She managed the prison in 2002, and was one of the working officers in CIA that have the experience with the “struggling simulation torture technique”.
She is also responsible for destroying video material of such tortures. The Justice Department raised an accusation against her, but it ended up without a charge.
Haspel has worked for the CIA since 1985, and the secret prison is not her only crime. This documentary takes a look at all of the alleged war crimes. But to summarize, she was one of the central figures in the most gruesome chapters of American modern history.
