Madame de Pompadour, or the Marquise de Pompadour will be remembered as the most famous mistress of Louis XV, and perhaps one of the most famous mistresses in the history of the world.

She was his official mistress, but she was much more. Many remember the Madame de Pompadour only as King Louis mistress. But she was great in art, and she was especially crafty in seducing her lovers using chocolate.

She was member of the French court and official chief mistress of Louis XV from 1745 to 1751. She remained influential until her death. Despite her frail health and many political enemies, the Marquise de Pompadour was a valued advisor and aide.

During her time as a mistress, she secured titles of nobility for herself and her relatives and built a network of supporters. On February 8, 1756, she was named the thirteenth lady in waiting to the queen, a position considered the most prestigious at the court at the time.

She died in 1764 at the age of 42 from tuberculosis. Louis XV remained devoted to her and by her side until her death. Even her enemies mourned and admired her courage during her final days.
