Shanghai's Transrapid Maglev Guideway

Shanghai’s Maglev might not be the shiniest, the newest, or the one with the most expensive tickets. But it is the fastest train in the world, and it is not even close. Maglev can go up to 267mph, which is more than 30mph than the second fastest train in the world, the Harmony CRH380A, which goes up to 236mph.

How does Maglev goes so fast? The train uses advanced engineering, design, and technology to accelerate up to 267mph. The train uses magnetic levitation technology, and doesn’t go to the city center.

The Maglev debuted back in 2004, and since then, no train has come even close to rival the speed of Shanghai’s public transport. The ride costs $8 per person, per ride, and you get 19 miles from the international airport, to the Longyang metro station. The train needs just 7 minutes to complete the 19 miles ride.

The bulk of the passengers are travelers on their way to and from the airport. Cameras are ready to snap a photo of the speed indicator when the train hits the 267mph speed.
