Hitler and the Nazi were known for their aspirations for huge things. Big buildings, big weapons, everything was graded according to size. The bigger the better. And that is especially true for Prora, Hitler’s 10,000 room private Nazi resort complex. But the interesting part is that the resort did not accommodate a single quest.
Hitler built this grandiose building to showcase the power and success of the Third Reich. Prora is basically the biggest hotel in the world.
The construction started during the Nazi regime on the island of Rugen. The German island was located in the Baltic Sea. The Fuhrer wanted a beach resort, one that the world has never seen before. He also wanted to be able to transform the hotel into a military hospital in the event of a war. Some of the features Hitler insisted were a theater, a dock for the ships, and a concert hall that can accommodate up to 20,000 people.
Fun fact: Prora was designed to provide affordable holidays for the average workers. The building even won the Grand Prix award at 1937 Paris World Exposition. The construction stopped in 1939 due to the beginning of the war. During World War II, the hotel was used as a refugee camp. Nowadays, Prora is due for renovation thanks to private investors.
