How do you get a society that provides basic decent services to all citizens? John Rawls, a political and moral philosopher, had a good idea, and he called it the Theory of Justice.

Considered one of the most important political philosophers of the 20th century, he was so influential, that he managed to revive political and moral philosophy debates in American universities and beyond.

In his Theory of Justice, he invented a system of thought. In it, a thing’s value is measured by its utility or usefulness, and that choices and actions should be directed toward the achievement or advantage for the greatest number of people.

He imagined a society that has a just and fair principle, fair operating institution, individuals that make up the basic structure of society.

The only problem was, and still is, that he didn’t account that individuals have their own interests, resulting disputes and conflicts among the people.
