Gates of hell is an urban legend. According to legends, there are various places on the surface of the world that have acquired a legendary reputation for being an entrance to the underworld. In fact, there are 7 alleged places that represent Gates of Hell.
In most cases, the Gates of Hell are found in regions of unusual geological activity, particularly volcanic areas, or sometimes caves, mountains, and lakes. One of those places is the Karakum desert in Turkmenistan, where the fiery crater has been burning since 1971.
The Gates of Hell also appear in some iconic books, like in Dante’s Divine Comedy. As he is entering hell, on the gate there is an inscription ending with the famous phrase “Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate". The phrase is often translated to “Abandon all home, ye who enter here”.
