This documentary on Mongol History talks about Mongol ideology. We discuss why Chinggis Khan wanted to conquer the world and thought that it is his destiny.
Genghis Khan was the founder and first Great Khan of the Mongol Empire, which became the largest contiguous empire in history after his death. He came to power by uniting many of the nomadic tribes of the Mongol steppe and being proclaimed the universal ruler of the Mongols, or Genghis Khan.
His empire was the largest ever to exist at the time, spanning the entire Asian continent from the Pacific Ocean to modern-day Hungary in Europe. During his conquest, he killed between 20 and 40 million people, which is between 5 and 10 percent of the world population at the time.
Fun fact: he was not defeated in battle. Instead, he died within eight days of setting off for his final campaign against the Western Xia in August 1227. According to historians, his cause of death remains a mystery. Some say he fell from his horse while hunting and died because of the injury.
