The Giant Panda, also known as panda bear or simply panda, is a bear native to south central China. You can easily recognize it by the large, distinctive black patches around its eyes, over the ears, and across its round body.
We use the term giant panda to distinguish it from the unrelated red panda. It belongs to the order Carnivora, but its diet is 99% bamboo.
Giant pandas that live in the wild also eat other grasses, like wild tubers. They rarely eat meat in the form of birds, rodents, or carrion.
While in captivity, their diet consists of eggs, honey, fish, yams, shrub leaves, oranges, and bananas.
As a result of farming, deforestation, and other development, they have been driven out of the lowland areas where they once lived.
