Singapore is an educational super-power. Near the top of all international comparisons, 97% of students continue in education after 18 years of age.
How did the country achieve that? It is all thanks to their structured, centralized approach, and a prescribed national curriculum and relatively uniform classroom teaching and practice.
The system in Singapore includes six years of primary school, followed by four to six years of secondary school, and one to three years of postsecondary school. The curriculum is common for all students in years one to four.
This documentary travels to Singapore to find out why its education system tops the global leader board. It looks at high-stakes testing, and ask if the culture of competition puts too much pressure on kids.
