How The Toilet Changed History

A flush toilet is a toilet that disposes of human waste (urine and feces) by using water to flush it through a drainpipe to another location for disposal.
This concept might sound simple to us, but it hasn’t always been that case. In fact, the first toilet was not even invented before the 16th century.
By the end of the 1590s, Queen Elizabeth I had the first toilet in the kingdom. In the late 19th century, working class homes almost always had outside lavatories.
Nowadays, more people have access to toilets and sanitation than even before. That has helped save lives of children and prevent disease like polio.
Yet, more than 2 billion people worldwide still do not have daily access to basic sanitation, which is more than 25% of the world’s population.
This documentary takes a look at how toilets changed our world, and what we can expect in the future.
