Fire and Ice Ultra - 250km Foot Race in Iceland

Imagine crossing the ancient volcanic landscape in Iceland completely untouched by human hand on foot. That is exactly what the Fire and Ice Ultra race is. Only a handful of people ever finish the challenge, and it is an experience of a lifetime.

The race itself is a 250km, 6 day race. During the race, you are constantly changing Icelandic terrain, and run unassisted. During the entire race, you must be self-reliant. Everything you need, you have to carry with you. That includes water, food, and clothing.

As a reward, you get to run through volcanic steam vents heading north towards the Arctic Circle, and run almost the full circumference of a Dormant Volcano.

The race is planned over many months, all so that you can get the most challenging route, all while taking in some of the most spectacular parts of Iceland.

There are tents set up for competitors. They also provide hot water, but that is it. After all, the Fire and Ice Ultra is your personal challenge. The safety is paramount, so do not worry. There are always 4WD vehicles on the course and at manned checkpoints. They are there for people looking for medical assistance.

This year, the race is scheduled for August and September. The start is on Monday, August 28, and it lasts through Saturday, September 2nd.
