Nowadays, we know the Sahara Desert as a place defined by undulating sand dunes, unforgiving sun, and oppressive heat.

But imagine this for a second. Some 10,000 years ago, the Sahara desert was lush, verdant, and green. Yes, it is hard to imagine the desert as a green and woody environment. But there were plants, trees, and greenery all around the desert.

What happened? Many studies suggest that humans are the ones to blame. By bringing goats, sheep, and cows, humans altered the local climate. All of the domestic animals used the native vegetation as their food, and now the Sahara is a desert.

This documentary shows you what Sahara could have been, and what it was some 10,000 years ago.
