Many modern dictators are compared to Nicolae Ceausescu, who the general secretary of the Romanian Communist Party from 1965 to 1989. He was the last Communist leader of Romania.

During his time, Ceausescu was known for his lavish lifestyle, and extravagant spending. Just think about this for a moment. The Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest, which Nikolae designed after he was elected leader, is the heaviest building on the planet according to the Guinness World Records.

The building contains 700,000 tons of steel and bronze, million square feet of marble, 3500 tons of crystal, and an abundance of gold.

Nikolae was born on January 26, 1918. He met future Romanian leader and first Communist leader of Romania Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej in prison.

Ceausescu ruled to orthodox Communist principles, causing food shortages by forcing the export of most of the agricultural products.

On Christmas day in 1989, he and his wife Elena, were executed by firing squad.
