The documentary film portrays the life of 36-year old, Dede, suffering from a terrible disease that encases his body.
Thick branch like growths develop on his hands and feet. These growths on Dede’s body grow up to 5cm a year. In addition to this, he has developed hundreds of smaller growths all over his face and body.
These growths make him incapable of carrying out even the simplest tasks. He is unable to work, and hence cannot provide for his two children.
The film shows the Dr Gaspari, an American Dermatologist who hearing Dede’s story goes to Indonesia to meet Dede. On his meeting with Dede he discovers that Dede suffers from the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), or common warts.
The film focuses on the extreme case of Dede’s disease. The disease has been acute in case of Dede as he has a low immune deficiency that led to virus forming a massive, deforming infection.
The film ends with a conflicting view between the American dermatologist and the Indonesian doctors. Gaspari offers to cure Dede with drugs while Indonesian doctors have moved forward with surgeries to remove Dede’s warts.
