Along the shores of Sakhalin Island, just off the coast of Russia, a bizarre sea creature has washed up, that is leaving everyone puzzled. The half-eaten carcass is around twice the size of a human and appears to have fur as well as a beak, unlike any other species currently known to date.
Many speculations have arisen since its arrival, including suspicions that it may be a Ganges River Dolphin. But how it would have washed up at this location, makes this theory almost impossible. Ganges River dolphins are freshwater animals, so for one to not only get from India to Russia, but survive in a marine environment, seems out of the question. Not only that, but they are never as large as this specimen and also don’t have fur, along with every other species of dolphin, aside from when they are young. Many believe it could be a giant beaked whale and that he fur could be very decayed subcutaneous tissue.

David Smith, Professor of Marine Biology at Essex University suggested in an interview with The mail Online that the mass of fur may be some kind of filamentous algae formed on a known species. He put forward another possibility that it could be an ancient, extinct species that has been reserved in permafrost and recently been released from the ice due to rising temperatures, a mammoth even perhaps. This theory is one that is backed by many others also, but right now, the mystery remains.
