The Shape of Life

This relatively obscure series (2002) is a real find. 7 one-hour episodes tell the story of all sea invertebrates (sponges, anemones, worms, mollusks, arthropods, jellyfish, starfish, etc …) over time and how we relate and in some cases depending of these seemingly humble creatures.

Amazing video and computer graphics to clearly explain everything. The scope of the video is all over the world. This is documentary filmmaking at its best.

It’s a shame that it is best known for its easy as good as (better than, in my humble opinion) of PBS / BBC documentary on the same topic.

This is the evolution of life on earth, to explain the gradual changes in the anatomy (invertebrates to vertebrates, etc.).

Interesting information, first class photography and graphics, and some of the strangest-looking creatures I’ve seen!

After seeing this, you probably have a renewed and deeper understanding of what represents the animal kingdom.
