The Marketing of Madness, is a three part documentary that brings to the fore the nexus between psychiatry and drug companies which are hand in glove in exploiting the patients suffering from mental disorders.
The documentary presents a real story about the $80 billion profit earned by the psychiatry and drug companies which go on building profits clandestinely by taking recourse to stealthy marketing ploys which more often than not hide the true face of these corporations and the dangerous sales campaigns undertaken by them.
The movie brings forth some important discoveries regarding the modern drugs which not only make mental illness more acute but also induce depression. Also, theses psychiatric drugs for children have been reported to be far more addictive than cocaine The film questions the very diagnoses and the medication prescribed by the psychiatrists. The 297 mental disorders part of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, cannot be objectively measured by pathological tests. Hence the very foundation of the psychiatric diagnoses stands on a very dubious ground. The film shows that the mental disorder symptoms are subjectively and arbitrarily assigned in the manual further challenging the authenticity of such a manual which is used for treating millions of patients worldwide.
The documentary exposes the true face behind the corporate veneer maintained by the psychiatric and drug companies. The entire health care system that poses as providing care and treatment for mental disorders is exposes in its grim reality.
