The Vikings were among the fiercest warriors of all time. However, not all of them got the privilege to carry the ultimate weapon, the Ulfberht sword. Called the Viking sword, it was a single-handed sword with a wide fuller down the length of the blade.

When people think of Vikings, they think of barbaric race. But the fact of the matter is that Vikings were ahead of their time in so many different ways. For example, while they used dragon blood for cooling, they were advanced in so many other ways.

As for the Viking sword, while it is popularly called that, the sword was actually produced in the Frankish Empire during the Carolingian era. Swords of that era were found in pagan burials of Viking Age. That is why swords of the 8th to 10th century are also called Carolingian swords, not just Viking swords.

Viking swords are what came before the knightly sword. And in order to retrieve the secrets of the medieval sword, modern-day swordmisths try to reverse engineer the ultimate weapon.
