Objectified is the second part of a three-film “design trilogy” by Gary Hustwit and had its world premiere at the SxSW Film Festival in March 2009.
It is a documentary film encompassing the complexity in our relationships with manufactured, inanimate objects and thus also with their creators. It is about the innovators and architects, who re-examine, re-evaluate and re-invent our manufactured environment on a regular basis putting their creativity into everything ranging from simple household objects like toothbrushes to extremely complicated tech gadgets. It is as much about personality as it is about the reflection of our value systems.
Through in-depth conversations with these product designers, the film chronicles the creative processes of some of the most influential product designers of our era. Quite accurately, the objects we surround ourselves with tells tales about who we truly are and what are our aspirations.
