Malcolm Little, also known as Malcolm X, was born on 19th May, 1925, in Omaha, Nebraska. He was an activist fighting for the rights of African-Americans.
By the age of thirteen, Malcolm was an orphan. His mother was committed in a mental hospital and his father was killed when Malcolm was nine years old. In the following years, Malcolm was in and out of foster homes, and at the age of twenty he was arrested on the charges of breaking and entering along with larceny.
During the time in prison he converted to Islam and after his release, he became one of the leaders of a religious movement called Nation of Islam. After his excommunication from the movement, Malcolm travelled to Middle East and Africa. At that time he adopted Sunni Islam and changed his radical views.
He returned to the US and founded the Organization of Afro-American Unity and Muslim Mosque Inc. The two religious organizations were based on the Pan-Africanism, an ideology that supports the equality of Africans worldwide. At this point, Malcolm was in a serious dispute with the NOI.
The argument resulted in the assassination of Malcolm Little on February 21st in 1965. The assailants were identified as the members of the Nation of Islam.
