Game of Thrones is the most popular  television show ever. The show has broke almost all records in television. And rightfully so. George R.R. Martin has written a masterpiece, and HBO has done a great job of bringing his novels to life.

There are many theories what inspired Martin to write Game of Thrones. Same believe the War of the Roses in England is the prime source for inspiration. Others have different theories.

But hear it from Martin himself, along with historians what inspired him to write the novel. Yes, War of the Roses is just one part of the equation. But there are also many other historical events that contributed to the great novel Game of Thrones.

Kings and Queens have always battled for the throne and supremacy. But what Martin did masterfully is bring intrigue to the equation. And that is what makes Thrones special.
