CLASH of EMPIRES: The Japanese Occupation of China

When it comes to Asian empires, few people know that the Japanese Empire was one of the strongest in the modern era. At the middle of the 20th century, the Japanese occupied China.

The war was known as the Second Sino-Japanese War and followed the first one that happened between 1894 and 1895. China had economic help during the Second Sino-Japanese War from Germany, the British Empire and the Soviet Union.

An underrated aspect is that one of the reasons why Japan formed a coalition with Germany in the Second World War is for Germany to stop economically support China. During the Second World War, the war between the two empires, China and Japan was known as the Pacific War.

China endured horrific hell and horrors, as the country suffered between 10 and 25 million civilian casualties and 4 million military casualties. Mass bombing from the air were common during the War.

Over the first three to four years, until the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, Japan was scoring major victories and managed to occupy some parts of China. However, once the Americans joined the fight, they began helping China, all while battling Japan. The Japanese were not strong enough to fight on two fronts.

To understand why Japan attacked China so viciously, one must understand three facts. China is history! China is land! And China is people! The documentary tries to explain all three facts, and help viewers understand the conflict between China and Japan, that dates long back before the World War II.
