Call me Kuchu

"A new political bill in Uganda threatens to make homosexuality punishable by death. This film follows two activists at the head of this movement, David Kato and retired Anglican Bishop Christopher Senyonjo, as they try to fight the law and make steps towards equality among fellow lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender men and women, or “kuchus.

What brought the filmmakers Katherine Fairfax Wright and Malika Zouhali-Worrall to Uganda was the bill and the fight for it. What made the film shocking were the events that took place during filming: the murder of one of their main characters.

Call Me Kuchu sent shock waves through the film industry when it was released, and has since won a number of documentary awards."
