The documentary has currently been released in more than 42 countries worldwide and by the year 2005 it had grossed over $220 million worldwide and $ 120 million in the U.S. box office. The second documentary that has had similar success is March of the Penguins. This is a2005 French documentary that was co-written and produced by Luc Jacquet and Bonne Pioche in conjuction with the National Geographical Society. The story of the documentary is the annual journey of the Antarctica emperor penguins which begins in autumn when all penguins five years and older depart the ocean which is their natural habitat and walk inland to the ancestral breeding grounds where they court and even bring to life other chicks to join in the penguin family. The documentary film won the 2005 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature category among other accolades. This film takes the second position for the best documentary DVD set in terms of its gross. It was released on 24th June 2005 has grossed over $ 77 million. The other documentary that has been successful is Justin Beiber’s Never Say Never which has since release in February 2011 grossed over $73 million. The documentary centers on the singer’s life and experiences. The documentary revolves around Beiber’s 10 days of one of the prestigious performances including that of August 31, 2010 at the Madison Square Garden which was very successful that it sold out in 22 minutes. The young singer’s success has been captured in the more than an hour documentary and is one of the best documentary films of the year and the highest grossing for 2011.

Michael Moore who is the producer of Fahrenheit 9/11 also produced another grossing documentary film known as Sicko which investigates the United State’s health care provision with a focus on the health insurance sector and the pharmaceutical industry. The film was released back in 2007 but up top today has been one of the highest grossing documentary films on DVD. The film tries to make comparisons of the for-profit non universal U.S system of health care with the Not-for-profit universal healthcare systems of Canada, UK, France and Cuba as well. The film has grossed so far over $ 24 million and was released in 2007. It was produced by LGF studios. The final most grossing documentary film is An Inconvenience Truth which was directed by Davis Guggenheim about Al Gore who is the former United States Vice President. It is about his campaign about Global Warming.
