This documentary is concerned with the war in Afghanistan and the aftermath of certain operations that were executed by the US military forces. The directors of this film are Sebastian Junger, an American journalist and Tim Hetherington, a British-American photojournalist.
In a timeframe of one year which they spent in Afghanistan, Hetherington and Junger documented their experiences. They were stationed in the Korangal Valley with the Second Platoon of the Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team of the U.S. Army.
The duo will try to capture the hardships of people, in what was described by National Geographic as the deadliest place on Earth. Throughout the film you will have a chance to see the outcome of missions such as Operation Rock Avalanche and the consequences for all parties that were involved in this tragic conflict.
For the outstanding efforts in the operation Rock Avalanche, Staff Sergeant Salvatore Giunta received the Medal of Honor, thus becoming the first living person, since the Vietnam War, to receive this prestigious medal.
